A Forever Family for Dasha in Kyrgyzstan

Dasha lives in a small town in Kyrgyzstan. She’s been through SO much in her young life. Her father passed away when she was a baby, and her mother’s rights have been terminated. Born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and suffering from major health issues affecting her heart and eyes, Dasha had never even been to school until three years ago, when she was taken to a private Christian children’s home. Workers there were able to arrange the heart and eye surgery that she needed, and get her started in a local school. Although she is two years behind, she shows promise in her math classes!

Dasha is playful, quiet, and a little shy when you first meet her. She adores younger children, and is a very sensitive and caring little girl. She desperately longs to be adopted. Unfortunately, in Kyrgyz culture it’s very unlikely that a child like Dasha will be adopted due to her physical issues and developmental delays.

Thankfully, someone wants to adopt Dasha and is doing everything she can to make that possible. Lena lives in a nearby town and pastors a small church in the village. She is a single mother of four adopted children (3 boys and 1 girl), each with some sort of developmental disability. Lena has an enormous heart and a lot of experience working with special needs children. Life hasn’t been easy for her either… while she was adopting her children she received no support from her local community. Not long after, she lost her job when she found out she had cancer. Thankfully, her cancer was treated, and she continues to serve orphans and vulnerable children in her community.

When Lena heard Dasha’s story and met her, she fell in love with this precious little girl. She has visited her at the children’s home, prays with her, and truly believes Dasha is meant to be her daughter. And while Dasha sometimes struggles to adjust to others due to her early life trauma, she adores Lena and sees her as family.

In order for Lena to adopt Dasha, she needs to have a steady job. She has made plans to run a tutoring school/kindergarten in the village. Out of the kindness of her heart, she has already started one with 10 children from poor families in the village who can’t afford kindergarten/preschool education. Her plan is to equip her home with the proper materials to recruit more children from families who can afford to pay, providing income to keep her school running and allowing her to adopt Dasha!
