UPDATE: Thanks to your rapid response, Rita* is now safe and in the care of her Christian aunt!

Just this week, Rita* was rescued from an abusive home that she was married into at the age of 13. Orphaned at a young age, Rita was sent to live with her uncle. Viewed as a burden, her uncle made her work as a laborer even though she was only 6 years old at the time.

Imagine a 1st grader carrying 4 bricks on her head back and forth from a brick kiln to a construction site - 10 hours a day!

When Rita started to become a young lady, her uncle no longer wanted to care for her and married her off. For one year Rita lived in fear, abuse and hopelessness as her new family beat her, cursed her and forced her into difficult domestic duties.

One night she couldn't take it anymore. As she was being beaten, she fought back - with her voice. She cried out for help and didn't stop until a neighbor came to her aid. Upon seeing the state of this young girl - forced into child marriage and abuse - the neighbor contacted government officials and Rita was rescued.

Rita was put in the care of our partner, with rights to restore Rita to extended family that will care and love for her. A Christian aunt has been found and screened states away and wants to bring Rita home as her own daughter.
