Provide critical assistance for orphans in Uganda

Background

Provide critical assistance for orphans in UgandaFor the past several years Pastor Daniel Kagwaa of Sign of the Dove church in Kampala, Uganda and his wife Erica have operated a transition center for 15 orphans at a time. The transition center serves as a children’s home and covers all the basic needs of the children only while Daniel and Erica work to find local families who can adopt the children. So far, they have placed 40 children into loving, Christian families within their church community! It has been an incredible leap of faith for these families to agree to taking another child into their home, as Uganda is one of the poorest nations in the world and most of these families are struggling just to survive.

Erica and Daniel have been working tirelessly to try to find the funds to support some of the basic needs of these brave families and ensure that they can pay the school fees for the children they adopted. Just last week, Erica sold all of her 400 chickens in order to pay the school feels for seven of the children. Unfortunately, this was a large part of her family’s monthly income, and she and Daniel Provide critical assistance for orphans in Ugandaare seeking ways to help the other families become self-sustaining so that they can provide for the basic needs and school fees of their children, to include those whom they adopted. As former orphans themselves who overcame incredible adversity, Erica and Daniel have incredibly generous and compassionate hearts for all orphaned children. Click here to read Erica's journey of survival from the Rwandan genocide to becoming a mother of orphans.

The following projects will assist Ugandan families in their efforts to become self-sustaining on a long-term basis and able to provide basic necessities and school fees for their biological and adopted children. (Additional details for each project are available upon request).

Your donations will go towards helping these three children that Erica and Daniel placed into local families in their community.

Provide critical assistance for orphans in Uganda Vincent Atwebembire was orphaned by an accident that resulted in his parents death. He loves dancing, drama, and teaching football. He’s a very social young man who gets along great with other kids in the community. Vincent’s foster parents, Daniel and Erica, are looking to start a taxi business. They got the idea from using the church van to taxi people around, but to do this they need a new van. Their hope is that using the van as a taxi will bring in a sustainable income so they can support Vincent and the other children that they foster as well as continue their work in matching orphans with families within their community. So far they’ve already matched 41 children with families and are currently matching their 42nd child! To purchase the van and get the taxi business up and going, they need $10,000.

Provide critical assistance for orphans in Uganda UPDATE- John's family has received your gifts to help them purchase a bike for their taxi business. They now have a sustainable business and are able to support their adopted and biological children. They no longer struggle to pay for John's daily antiretroviral medication.THANK YOU!

John Tegume was orphaned when AIDS took the lives of his parents. John is 9 years old and is HIV+. He enjoys playing with  other kids, especially when it comes to football. John’s foster parents David and Cathy are looking to expand their bike taxi business but will need to purchase a new bike. To be able to expand their business means they would have the means to support their newly adopted child, John, and continue to support their two other children and a third orphan they have living with them right now. John is also in need of daily HIV medicine which is very costly. Read more about John here. To meet the expansion needs and the needs of the children, they need $2,125.
